The Berger Time-Domain Research Group at Harvard University investigates a wide range of astrophysical explosive phenomena, including supernovae, gamma-ray bursts, fast radio bursts, and the electromagnetic counterparts of gravitational wave sources. We use techniques and telescopes that span the full spectrum from radio waves to gamma-rays.
Our program to study gravitational wave sources is centered on the Dark Energy Camera, a wide-field instrument on the 4-meter Victor Blanco telescope in Chile. With our collaborators at Northwestern University, Ohio University, Brandeis and elsewhere, we then use a variety of other telescopes for follow up, including Gemini, Magellan, the Very Large Array, ALMA, Chandra, and Hubble.
